Courthouse Academy

Virginia Beach, VA

Core 22 Design Build was awarded a contract to design and construct a two phase project for Courthouse Academy in Virginia Beach, VA.

Phase I, completed in 2008, involved designing and constructing a 7,400 SF preschool consisting of nine classrooms for an enrollment of 180 students. The enclosed entrance vestibule and “Bell Tower” is reminiscent of the “little red school house” and is constructed of 4’ red masonry veneer and aluminum storefront to match the rest of the building’s facade. Toilet rooms adjoin eight of the classrooms with each classroom having its own sink. The multipurpose room features a small stage for presentations and performances and is used for recreation, gathering, and ballet lessons. The school is equipped with a small computer lab for instruction purposes and office spaces, work/break rooms, storage areas, and two gender designated bathrooms.

Phase II, completed in 2012, involved a 9,500 SF addition/renovation to the preschool. The front addition to the school included reincorporating the signature “Bell Tower” tower at the main entrance, a new multipurpose room, computer room, testing room, two designated Pre-K classrooms, and designated kindergarten rooms for Spanish classes. The existing administrative area was converted to a kindergarten classroom while three offices, a records storage area, and new toilet facilities for students and staff were added. The back addition to the facility consisted of expanding the school to incorporate two classrooms designated for toddlers and two classrooms designated for infants.
