Core 22 Design Build was awarded the contract to construct a new Primrose School at Edinburgh Commons in Chesapeake, VA. Primrose School is a national family of accredited early education and care schools for infants through kindergarten and after-schoolers.

This wood-framed, fully sprinklered facility was completed in the Summer of 2020. The entire school has an urban, residential feel. The warm, exterior brick façade is accented with stone veneer, bull-nosed water table, and solider coursing, and accented with vinyl shutters and Fypon awning brackets. Keystone and brick Primrose school logos and a lighted, standing seam roofed cupola with the signature Primrose rooster weathervane complete the look.

The urban feel is continued to the interior with warm colors, chair rail and crown molding, wainscot, wood and glass paneled doors, decorative lighting, wood grain luxury vinyl tile, and extensive millwork and solid surface cabinetry package. This 11,763 SF school consists of administration areas, 11 classrooms, 17 single toilets, a car seat storage area, a staff lounge, a laundry room, a warming kitchen, a stage, conference room, and staff offices.

All-embracing outdoor play areas are incorporated into the learning experience. Areas are graphically outlined for basketball, hopscotch, and 4-square and a splash pad is included for summer fun. The playgrounds are enclosed with decorated wrought iron fencing and the entire playground is covered with artificial turf and fall zone padding. Canopy-covered playground equipment and educational toys are disbursed throughout the play areas. The playground also includes the signature Primrose Patch, a natural soil area that allows students to learn to plant and grow a garden.
